Tens of millions of dollars in infrastructure investments are often based on sparse information about how the road network is actually used. This is changing quickly as data from connected vehicles (CVs) provides detailed information on the use of our road networks that was never before available.
Turning billions of CV records into actionable information for transportation engineers, however, can be very challenging. This work requires advanced data processing skills, specialized software, and significant server resources. Many purchased data sets remain unused after agencies and consultants run into data processing roadblocks.
Moonshadow has processed over three trillion CV waypoints from many sources for dozens of transportation engineering projects. We decided to summarize our experiences in a guide on how to make waypoint data ready for transportation analytics. The result is our eBook; How to procure and use Connected Vehicle Data. Please click on the title to download your complimentary copy.
Moonshadow does not itself create CV data and this puts us in a unique position as an independent center of expertise. Our guide will help agencies and engineering firms plan out the process of turning waypoint ‘breadcrumbs’ into actionable information and avoid costly mistakes. Our guide gives an overview of the tasks and pitfalls of processing billions of CV records and it gives an overview of the unsurpassed insights that can be derived from CV data – when used correctly.
